Who Should Attend | Objectives | Research Awards | Conference Committee
The Scientific Conference Committee looks forward to welcoming you to the 8th Biennial National Lymphedema Network (NLN) International Conference jointly sponsored by the Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. Lymphedema: Riding the Wave of Discovery will take place August 27-31, 2008, at the Sheraton Hotel and Marina in beautiful San Diego, California.

The primary goal of the conference is to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and to share the breakthroughs and innovations in the field of lymphology. The conference is an opportunity for new practitioners and investigators to exchange treatment principles and philosophies with established experts to further the field’s pioneering status as the discipline continues to press forward.
Pre-conference seminars will offer an extensive study on wound care and lymphedema management for morbidly obese patients, as well as therapeutic responses to noncompliance and minimizing therapist burnout. Back by popular demand, the physician pre-conference session has been extended to six hours to allow attendees to expand their knowledge and incorporate lymphology and care of patients with lymphedema into their existing practice. Plenary sessions will present the latest discoveries from basic, applied, and clinical research by clinicians and scientists from around the world. Instructional sessions covering various topics of interest allow attendees to strengthen particular areas of clinical practice, whether it is on a beginner, intermediate, or advanced level. Special interest groups and round table discussions will provide an intimate forum to discuss issues of particular relevance. Patient advocates interested in learning more about basic and clinical science are invited to submit applications to join the Lymph Science Advocacy Program (LSAP).
The NLN is honored and privileged to welcome two distinguished guests as keynote speakers. Dr. John Bergen, MD, FACS, FRCS, a prominent world renowned vascular surgeon from the University of California , San Diego , will be opening the conference by sharing his expertise in vascular diseases and lymphatic disorders. Dr. Christine Moffatt, PhD, MA, RGN, DN Senior Consultant Editor of the recently British published “Lymphedema Framework Consensus Paper”, will speak during the luncheon on Saturday, August 30.
In recognition of the outstanding achievements of researchers in the field, two scholarships will be awarded to commend the endeavors of one Best New Investigator and one Best Career Investigator. All are encouraged to submit research-based abstracts, as well as educational case studies for poster sessions or presentation.
Our exhibit Pavilion will host industry-related companies that offer products for lymphedema therapy and wound care, as well as technology designed for measuring and treating lymphatic disorders. Other exhibitors will include schools and organizations that are recognized for their educational and certification accomplishments. In appreciation of our supporters, there will be a drawing held for those who have “surfed” their way to all of the exhibitors for a grand prize. The festivities will be ongoing with raffles, a silent auction, and opportunities for relaxing, catching up with old friends, and making new ones.
We look forward to “Riding the Wave of Discovery” with all of you in sunny southern California. This professional conference will be an excellent venue to explore the new horizons emerging in the field of lymphology and it promises to be a wonderful educational experience!
The 2008 Conference Scientific Committee
This educational program is intended for all medical professionals, including physicians, nurses, allied healthcare professionals and basic scientists interested or involved in the field of Lymphology. The program will focus on basic, translational and clinical research in the field of lymphedema and related disorders. While this program will include the most current research and practice trends related to lymphedema care, we encourage professionals with limited knowledge of the lymphatic system to participate and expand their practice to include this exciting and under-recognized aspect of medicine.
At the conclusion of the Conference, participants will be able to:
Sponsored by the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA)
