World Lymphedema Day

The First Lymphedema Day

The Founder of National Lymphedema Network, Saskia RJ Thiadens, started lymphedema day to promote the awareness of lymphedema and to honor the struggles that people with lymphedema have to navigate. The date of March 6 was chosen because that is the day the National Lymphedema Network was incorporated as the first nonprofit organization dedicated to lymphedema. Above is a photograph of the very first award being given to a patient advocate, Shevra Tait, on Lymphedema Day March 6, 1994. Saskia's extraordinary vision has now transformed into a global movement where everyone is united in celebrating World Lymphedema Day. It is a day when the world joins together in support of all those living with lymphedema and honors the extraordinary providers and their contributions to lymphology.
